Day 52, Smithville Marina on the Tenn-Tom

85' drop, 1st lock of the day

Beautiful scenery

Cruising the Tenn-Tom

We departed Bay Springs Marina this morning along with “Adagio” and “Perfect Timing” for a beautiful trip today down the Tenn-Tom to Smithville Marina in Smithville MS.. Our very first lock started out with delays as we had to wait for (3) commercial tows before we could complete our southbound passage. Our 8:00 AM proposed departure turned into 10:00 AM with a total of four locks to negotiate and 35 miles downriver to Smithville Marina before 5:00 PM darkness. You do not want to get caught on the Tenn-Tom after dark without a marina for an overnight or already securely anchored for the night. This waterway is not forgiving for not planning ahead. In the narrows there is absolutely no where to anchor as well as it against the law.

Our three boats arrived at Smithville Marina at 4:00 PM and the helpful pleasant staff assisted all three vessels to get tied up, electric and water connections along with cable TV. The ladies used the marina courtesy car to run to Piggly Wiggly for a quick re-provisioning. Diann arrived back before dark, and we had dinner aboard. No wifi, and a fairly weak Verizon connection, but let’s see if we can get this posted.

Tomorrow it is on to Columbus MS, (2) locks and about 45 miles. Hopefully we can achieve a little more distance with less locking. The weather has been absolutely stunning.
