Day 333 Douglas-Saugatuck, Michigan

Leaving Muskegan in the haze, it was a very humid day

Ship & Shore Hotel, Saugatuck

Chain ferry from Saugatuck to Douglas

Downtown Douglas - Everyday People Cafe

We departed Muskegon on Tuesday with forecasted 1' or less seas. This time the forecast was correct. It was a very humid, hazy day but the seas were comfortable and it was an uneventful 50 mile cruise from Muskegon to Saugatuck/Douglas Michigan.

We are at Tower Marine in Douglas with Saugatuck across the Kalamazoo River from us. Tower Marine is a very nice larger marina complete with swimming pool, laundry, showers and ships store. We took advantage of the pool on this very hot muggy afternoon. Later in the evening we rode bikes to downtown Douglas, and walked around specialty stores. “Everyday People Cafe” was a restaurant recommended to us but it was very noisy and a long wait so we selected Wild Dog Grille for dinner. It was a nice quiet dinner outdoors in the courtyard.

This morning I tried to beat the line at the laundry and I was successful but by the time I finished, it was a down pour and I had to sit and wait for half an hour for the shower to pass through.

Right now we are trying to plan an itinerary to Chicago but kind of hard to do when the lake determines when you will travel! Tomorrow we were going to move across the river to Sergeant Marina in Saugatuck ($2.25’) but decided to pass since we have visited this destination many times by car. Saugatuck is an artist’s retreat with 30 art galleries and upscale boutiques. It is a very unique community with many boats for Tom to view and many specialty shops for me to visit during the day. There is live music on Thursday evenings in the City Park Gazebo which I think we will ride bikes to.
