Concert in Park

We had a very nice lunch here at the Cullinary Arts Institute in downtown Muskegon.

Today we are going to park the boat for a few days here in Muskegon Michigan, rent a vehicle and drive home to Illinois to visit my mother in ICU. She fell a few weeks ago fracturing her hip and vertebrae. Surgery was performed, however, recovery is not going as well as hoped for. We both feel we need to be home to visit and comfort her. We have access to rental cars here in Muskegon so we are taking advantage of that option.

Our guide books reflected you may want to make a day visit or a place just to get out of foul weather, however, we have found Muskegon very entertaining with some interesting history. There is a beautiful bicycle path adjacent to the marina that connects us with provisions, restaurants, the downtown area and miles of scenic bike path enjoyment. We hopped a tour trolley along with Andrew and Sally Ann (Freedom) and had a educational scenic tour of Muskegon.

Last night in the downtown City Park there was a free concert featuring a very good blues band, food and beverage vendors. We rode bikes to the park with new boating friends, Mark & Sue. We had met them a few days back in Charlevoix. They boat out of South Haven MI. We enjoyed a very pleasant summer evening in the park.

The Lake Michigan winds have picked up and have not been pleasant for several days with no relief in site until the first or middle of next week. Winds of 10-20 MPH and waves of 3’-5’ are forecasted which makes traveling on the Lake very uncomfortable.
