Day 302 Burnt Island & Killarny

While in the dinghy, snapping pictures of the many remote islands around our anchorage. We actually landed on this island and walked/climbed the rocks. Absolutely beautiful.

While at Killarney Mountain Lodge, Hatterass's from Bay Harbor Michigan departed here today.

We had 20 miles of open water to travel from our anchorage at Bustards Islands to our next anchorage at Burnt Island. This area is the most exposed portion of the Georgian Bay open to Lake Huron’s furry. We were lucky and had water smooth as glass for the majority of the trip. At anchor tonight, when it is totally dark around you the sky is covered with exceptionally radiant stars. How beautiful. Burnt Island in Beaverstone Bay is a spectacular anchorage which we had to ourselves most of the day. One sailboat join the anchorage but off a distance to allow total solitude. It is so whisper quiet and remote, we just sit and enjoy the sounds of wildlife.

We leisurely had breakfast before heading off to Killarney, the entrance to the North Channel and the oldest community on the north shore of the bay!
This town was settled by French in early 1800’s and later was populated for lumbering purposes to supply the Industrial boom. This was the shipping port at the bottom of the LaCloche Mountains & is now a gathering place for boats moving between Georgian Bay & North Channel. Always considered a great “getaway” in summer, Al Capone used to holiday here. Getaway probably had a dual meaning for him.
We had a tasty lunch from the famous Fish & Chips School Bus on the Dock. We enjoyed lunch outdoors at waterside. Of course we found local ice cream next door. Tonight we had little more formal dining at the Killarney Mountain Lodge, which is where our marina is located. The entree's are changed every night and tonights menu and dining experience was excemptionally good. Nice north wood atmosphere and great service. This is a nice place to stay a day or two.
