Friday, day 202, we ventured up to Fernandina Beach, Florida where we stayed at the City Municipal Marina for another very pretty and interesting city. Transient rates are reasonable and we were entertained by live music coming from downtown a couple of blocks away. Fernandina is really a quaint, historic district type community with many restaurants, art galleries, and ice cream stores. This town was well worth the time to time to stop and enjoy our last city in Florida. Nice clean community.

Saturday we left Florida and entered Georgia. We anchored by Cumberland Island, GA and took the dinghy ashore to hopefully see the wild horses, and wild boar that the island is known for. The Thomas Carnegie family bought the island and donated portions to the National Seashore Park service. John F. Kennedy Jr. was married at a small church on this island. It is accessible only by water, although residents on the island may have vehicles brought in by a barge. I’m not sure why because where are they going to drive to??? The island is about 20 miles long with very few paths for vehicles. You can bring or rent bicycles but the path you ride on is rough. If you can get your bike to the beach the sand is hard for a nice long ride. From the ranger station there is a boardwalk you eventually arrive at to cross the huge sand dunes that leads to a perfect sand beach that stretches as far as you can see in both directions. The oak trees with hanging moss create a canopy that is just breathing to see. As we walked the trails, the silence or tranquility was just whisper quite. This was a cool visit that we both enjoyed tremendously.

Armadillos will walk close to the path and don’t seem to be afraid of humans. (I saw 5) We took a little dinghy ride when we left the National Park Dock cruising around the perimeter of Cumberland Island before returning to "Noah Genda" for the evening anchorage. It was a beautiful quite evening and the stars were extremely bright.

We saw a couple of wild horses while we were on the island but today as "Noah Genda" traveled the ICW north, along the shore of Cumberland Island, we saw 8 to 10 grazing on the island. When Tom started to pull up the anchor today, he found a sea turtle climbing up the anchor chain. I guess he was coming for a visit or breakfast, I’m not sure which.

Tonight, Sunday, we are at Brunswick Marina at ICW mile marker (MM)680. The temperature has warmed up to 82-85 degrees. The woman manning the fuel and transient dock is very helpful. Diesel is $ 2.85 including tax, dock fee $2.00’ and laundry was free! The downside is it is Sunday there are absolutely no restaurants open in town. Tom rode his bicycle to Winn-Dixie for a few provisions and also for dinner on board tonight. Actually works out well, allows time to write this blog, go to bed early so I can get up early to watch the 6:19 shuttle launch in the morning. Hope to see it from here. Tomorrow it is (53) miles up the east coast to an anchorage at MM 630, Wahoo River off the ICW.
